Chemistry Discipline Network TLO to standards meetings

From Threshold Learning Outcomes to Demonstrable Assessable Standards The 2014 meeting will be held at UTS on October 1, following ACSME at the University of Sydney. To RSVP please email Stephanie Beames. The meeting will include a brief report back on our activities and a report on the RACI TLO based accreditation trial. In the past 3 years, the “body of knowledge” TLO 2.1 and laboratory skills TLO 3.2 statements have been finalised; the revised Academic Standards Statement reflecting these are available under the TLO tab. The discussion on assessment began in September 2013 where we discussed assessing TLOs 1.1 (nature of science) and 5.3 (ethical behaviour). Some robust discussion led to the collation of a large set of assessment items for these TLOs. It is crucial to keep in mind that TLOs are about demonstrating mastery of a threshold; we are not looking at assessment items in order to differentiate a pass from a high distinction. The TLOs provide the threshold to be met across the whole degree, but we are also interested in discussing how this can be broken down between the year levels.
