About us

The Chemistry Discipline Network was established in 2011, funded by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council.
Why do we need a network of chemistry educators?

  • To share our successes and frustrations in teaching chemistry to current students
  • To improve our teaching by building on ideas and strategies from one another
  • To develop a community of practice as a strong voice for chemistry teaching
  • To agree standards to present to TEQSA
  • To implement the Chemistry Threshold Learning Outcomes (TLOs)
  • To reduce the isolation of chemistry academics at smaller institutions

What is our network doing?

  • Performing a mapping exercise:
    • What chemistry is currently being taught in Australia?
    • How is it being taught and assessed?
    • How does current teaching align with the TLOs?
  • Establishing a hub for sharing learning objects:
    • upload and download in-class activities, practicals, assessment items, etc.
    • provide feedback, improve approaches
    • implement TLOs through our teaching
  • Generating critical mass through online forums for impact on important issues.
