1. Know your students

Find out who they are and be willing to adjust to their needs: students in tertiary classes are usually more diverse than you assume. Check the class list– what is the range of programs of study (this relates to their preparation or prerequisite knowledge)? Are the students from multiple levels of study and possibly repeating the course? Question the students – even a show of hands in a large class gives you feedback in regard to their current understanding.
